Classical Civilisation - Guest speaker to AS lesson

On December the 19th, we had the privilege to welcome in the Classical Civilisation class an old student of our school and currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Leeds, Dr George Rodosthenous.
Dr Rodosthenous talked to the students about the adoption of ancient plays and he presented examples and information regarding this topic.
To what extent can we adapt ancient plays? Is there a magic formula to produce Antigoni or Hippolytus?  Are we allow to omit the gods and put their words into the mouth of humans? Is it permitted to show violence on stage contrary to what the ancients believe?
These and many more questions and answers were raised along with short extracts from plays produced at the University under the guidance of Dr Rodosthenous.  An amazing opportunity to listen to a lecture and be treated as University students.
We would like to take this opportunity and thank George (who arrived from UK at seven in the morning and came almost straight to us) and to wish him all the best to his new book "Contemporary Adaptations of Greek Tragedy". Looking forward to read it!
